It is with deep sadness that I am reporting the passing away of Pandit Raghu Nath Kaul in New Delhi, India, on Nov. 29, 2003.
Kaul Sahib was a man of integrity, decency, and accomplishments.
He was born in Kashmir, graduated from Lahore, and obtained Master’s in Science and Bachelor’s Of Law from Lucknow.
He qualified in Kashmir Civil Service and started his professional career in J & K Police.
After a short stint in J & K Govt. Kaul Sahib moved to Air India, retiring as its Director. He also held the position of Managing Director of Hotel Corp. Of India Limited.
With a career spanning over twenty-eight years with the above indicated companies, he served in East Africa, Europe, South East Asia, Australia, and India.
Also Kaul Sahib served for six years in Malaysia, as Managing Director of two companies and a member of the boards of others.
He worked with Jawahar Lal Nehru in the Indian independence movement.
He wrote a comprehensive three-volume book on tourism The Dynamics Of Tourism. He also published in 1999 The Wail Of Kashmir, The Quest Of Peace .In this book he exposed many myths about Kashmir Problem – the fifty-six year old and ongoing war between India and Pakistan over Kashmir.
Kashmir had always been a subject of great personal interest to Kaul Sahib: culturally, historically, and its constitutional evolution as a state.
Those of us who were fortunate to know him knew him as a highly civilized and compassionate man.
He is survived by Ravi & Lalita Kaul – Son & Daughter-in-Law; Dr. Anjna & Dr. Pyarmohan Dhar – Daughter & Son-In-Law.
